Zoe & Adnan’s Colourful Fusion Wedding at London Shenley Club, Hertfordshire

If you’re looking for proof that you absolutely do not have to choose between traditions, cultures or even wedding outfits, let me introduce you to Zoe and Adnan’s gorgeous fusion wedding at London Shenley Club in Hertfordshire.

Two cultures. Two incredible looks. A homemade wedding cake. A ceremony filled with personal touches. A LOT of colour. And the kind of late-summer light that makes a wedding photographer want to quietly abandon the timeline and herd everyone into a field immediately.

Basically, there was a lot to love about this one.

A fusion wedding that felt completely theirs

One of my favourite things about fusion and multicultural weddings is seeing couples take the traditions that mean something to them and bring them together in a way that feels completely personal.

Zoe and Adnan did exactly that.

Earlier in the day, Zoe wore the most incredible deep red and gold traditional outfit, while Adnan wore an ivory sherwani with beautiful gold detailing. Against the soft gold of the fields surrounding London Shenley Club, the colours were just ridiculously good.

And yes, I absolutely took them into those fields.

Later, they changed into their Western wedding outfits for their outdoor ceremony, with Zoe in a beautifully detailed lace wedding dress and Adnan in a dark suit.

It meant their gallery didn't just document what their wedding looked like. It told the story of both sides of their celebration and the people, traditions and little details that made the day theirs.

Getting married at London Shenley Club

London Shenley Club is tucked away in Shenley, Hertfordshire, surrounded by countryside despite being brilliantly placed for couples with guests coming from both Hertfordshire and London.

And photographically? Those surroundings are a bit of a gift; I just can't resist a field of wheat!

The venue combines its traditional English clubhouse with more flexible event spaces, while the grounds open out onto the cricket pitch and Hertfordshire countryside. There are options for indoor and outdoor celebrations too, making it particularly lovely for couples who want to put their own stamp on their wedding.

For Zoe and Adnan, the outdoor ceremony space was transformed with warm autumnal florals, foliage, pampas and soft neutral draping.

Those rusty oranges, creams and warm earthy tones looked BEAUTIFUL against the venue and tied everything together, from the ceremony backdrop to the table plan, bouquets and reception details.

The bride made her own wedding cake. Yes, really.

We need a moment for the cake.

Because Zoe made her own wedding cake.

On top of all the other things that come with planning and actually getting married, she casually added make a multi-tier wedding cake to the list.

And it wasn't just technically a wedding cake that survived until the reception. It was genuinely beautiful.

The simple textured buttercream was decorated with fresh flowers in warm orange, burgundy, cream and white, perfectly matching the rest of their styling.

Personal details will always win for me.

They don't necessarily have to be huge or expensive. It's the things that make you look back at your gallery and think, that was so us. And I think "I MADE OUR ACTUAL WEDDING CAKE" qualifies rather spectacularly.

An outdoor wedding ceremony in the Hertfordshire sunshine

For their ceremony, Zoe and Adnan changed into their second wedding looks and married outside at London Shenley Club.

The floral ceremony backdrop framed everything beautifully, but what I love most from ceremonies isn't necessarily the perfectly symmetrical wide shot.

It's the expressions.

The glances.

Hands squeezing hands.

That tiny smile when something lands.

The guests watching everything unfold.

All the little things happening around the big thing.

That's why I photograph weddings predominantly in a documentary way. I'm watching what is happening rather than constantly trying to manufacture something for the camera.

Of course I'll step in when you need me. I'll organise the family photographs, find the good light and give you enough direction during your couple portraits that you aren't standing in a field thinking, Sam, WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANDS?

But for most of your day?

You get married. You celebrate. You hug your people. You eat the cake.

I'll find the good stuff.

Wedding photographs without disappearing for hours

London Shenley Club has something I absolutely love in a wedding venue: beautiful portrait locations without needing to turn couple photographs into a three-hour editorial production.

The surrounding fields gave us a completely different feel from the ceremony and reception spaces, so we popped out for portraits without Zoe and Adnan having to disappear from their guests for half the wedding.

Earlier in the day we photographed them in their traditional outfits amongst the wheat, with all those deep reds, golds and creams against the countryside.

Then later came THAT golden light.

And obviously we went back out.

Because when the sun starts doing that, I am going to come and find you.

Their sunset portraits are some of my favourites from the whole day. Warm light spilling through the field, lens flare, a little movement, a kiss or two and plenty of space for them just to be together for a few minutes.

Nothing overly staged. Nothing that stopped feeling like them.

Just a tiny pocket of calm in the middle of a very full wedding day.

The people are always part of the story

As beautiful as the styling was, Zoe and Adnan's gallery isn't only about the two of them.

Their people are everywhere in it.

The bridesmaids walking through the fields together. Guests reacting during the speeches. Friends laughing in the background. Everyone piling outside into the evening sunshine. The slightly chaotic brilliance of confetti.

Those photographs matter.

Because your wedding isn't a photoshoot with a party attached to it.

It's one of the very rare occasions when so many of the people you love are in one place at the same time.

So yes, I want the gorgeous portrait of the two of you in the golden light.

But I also want the photograph of your friend absolutely losing it during a speech.

I want your parents' faces during the ceremony.

I want your bridesmaids hyping you up.

I want the tiny interactions you didn't even know happened.

That's the story.
